Mardi Gras is a marathon, not a sprint! Even though Fat Tuesday is March 8, several big weekends lead up to that date. Parades are scheduled February 19-20 and 25-27. For more information visit www.mardigrasneworleans.com or check out our recent post on Festiva's Blog.

In the spirit of the Season visit Mardi Gras World during your vacation.

"Mardi Gras World is the most unique attraction in America's most uniquely attractive city. It's a world of wonders, created for you by the people who bring Mardi Gras to life every year-the artists of Blaine Kern Studios. The colors, the lights, the music, the joie de vivre. It's all here in one magical place where you can peek behind the curtain and see Mardi Gras in the making. You haven't truly experienced Carnival until you've explored Mardi Gras World."

Stanleys Restaurant, located 547 St Ann Street is a breakfast, brunch, or lunch must during your stay in New Orleans. It is located less than ½ mile from the resort, right on Jackson Square. In this laid-back atmosphere you can go decadent with Eggs Stella (poached egg over a soft shell crab), or simple with a more than filling Omelet Sandwich. Indulge in dessert for breakfast and try the Banana's Foster Waffles.

Tour: Historic Haunts: The Myths and Legends of the Vieux Carré: Tues. - Sun. throughout October at 2 p.m. Halloween Day at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. & 3 p.m. Admission is $5. Introduced in 2009, the popular Halloween-inspired tour of The Collection's Louisiana History Galleries explores the truth behind New Orleans's more seedy legends and the French Quarter's most infamous characters. The tour discusses the documented history and how it may have inspired the legends, allowing attendees to decide on their own what is myth and what is grisly truth. Including the likes of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, rumored sadistic slave-owner Madame Lalaurie and pirate Jean Laffite, the tour examines 10 "haunted" locations in the Quarter using research conducted at the Williams Research Center. Historic Haunts is intended for an adult audience.

Restaurant: Festiva Resorts has a new neighbor! Join us in welcoming Three Muses restaurant and bar as a wonderful new addition to the Marigny. Find out more about Three Muses on Urban Spoon.

Musuem: If you are a fan of history, you need to visit New Orleans' own National World War II Mueseum. The museum opened its doors to the public on June 6, 2000, the 56th anniversary of D-Day.  Wondering why the museum is located in New Orleans? The main reason the museum is located in New Orleans is because the city was where the "Higgins Boats," vital to D-Day operations were designed, built and tested. While there you can eat at the American Sector where one of America's greatest chefs, New Orleans' own John Besh, will serve you impressive culinary delights.

Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints on a 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Superbowl XLIV in Miami on Feb. 7! This was the first ever appearance for the Saints in the Superbowl, and it was a fantastic game. Residents and visitors alike flooded the city in celebration of the win. Go Saints!

The party hasn't stopped yet, and Mardi Gras is right around the corner with Fat Tuesday on February 16. This year's celebration will mark the 173rd year of parading in New Orleans, and will be the fourth Mardi Gras celebration since Hurricane Katrina devastated the city.

A record number of visitors is expected this year and Festiva's Frenchmen Orleans is the perfect place to take it all in. If you can't make it this year it's never too late to start planning for next year, because as the city's motto reiterates, laissez les bon temps rouler year after year.
